Q: What is the difference between the Patriot Guard and the American Legion Riders?
A: The Patriot Guard is a group of citizens that has banded together to show respect for fallen soldiers and attend their funerals as invited guests of the family. The American Legion Riders (ALR) support that mission as well, but also organize homecoming and sendoff rides, and participate in parades and other functions in support of their American Legion post. Most ALR members are also Patriot Guard members.

Q: Can I join the ALR?
A: Membership in the ALR is restricted to members of the American Legion, American Legion Auxiliary, and Sons of the American Legion that ride motorcycles of at least 350cc. See the links on the main page for each of these organizations for more info.

Q: Is the ALR a Motorcycle Club (M/C)?
A: No - the ALR is a Motorcycle Association. There are many differences between the two, but the ALR's primary purpose is to support the programs of the American Legion.  ALR Posts do not claim territory as a M/C does. While many ALR members wear vests with patches signifying their Post number, this is merely to show where we come from when attending events honoring our service men and women.
