Upcoming Events
5 July - Welcome Home/Sendoff for Chad A. Maneth, Sergeant, Engineer's Support Battalion, USMC. Stage at Eagles at 1815 hrs, KSU at 1845. We’ll pick Chad up at his grandparent’s house at 2008 Harrison and return to the Legion. Chad has served two tours in Iraq, and will be leaving for duty in Japan later in the week.
6 July - Welcome Home for Cody McNorton. Stage at Eagles at 1900 hrs, KSU at 1930. We will ride to Ellinwood where we will flag up and proceed to pick up Cody and take him to the Ellinwood Legion.
9 July - Concert at the Barton County Fair to benefit Central Kansas Honor Flights, featuring Victory 8, the 1st Division Infantry Rock Band of the Big Red One. 50% of the proceeds will go to helping our WWII veterans travel to Washington DC to visit the WWII Memorial. Stage at Eagles at 1800 hrs, KSU at 1830.
18 July - After Harvest Festival Parade - Stage at Eagles at 0800, KSU at 0830
18 July - 1st Annual Thunder on the Prairie sponsored by the Pratt American Legion Riders Post 86, on the island at Pratt’s Veterans Memorial Lake. 1000 hrs to 2200 hrs. $15.00 all day island admission. Three live bands, DJ, food and beverages, bike games. Proceeds benefit the Pratt County Cancer Society and the American Legion Legacy Scholarship Fund.
19 July - 40th Anniversary “Easy Rider” run to be held in July by Alef’s Harley Davidson in Wichita. Dates/details to be announced.
19 July - Kansas City Royals Benefit Game for the Legacy Fund.
25 July - Legacy Scholarship Poker Run sponsored by Hutchinson ALR Post 68. The route will be from Hutch to Stafford to Pratt to Great Bend to Sterling and back to Hutchinson. First bike out at 10:00 AM so some will eat lunch at Pratt and some will wait to eat at Great Bend. Last bike in @ 1700 hrs. $10.00 PER HAND OR 3 FOR $25.00. Cash prizes for 1st, 2nd, & 3rd place. Open to the public! Breakfast buffet from 0700-1000 - $7.50 for all you can eat! Steaks served from 1700 to 1900 for $10. Cars are welcome too! Hope to see you there! Click here for more details.
25 July - Wilson Czech Festival Parade - Stage at Eagles at 0715 hrs, KSU at 0745.
July - ALR 180 Ride to Fort Dodge to visit the Veterans. Stage at Eagles at 0730 hrs, KSU at 0800 hrs. We’ll arrive early enough to have breakfast, then go to the Home.
17-23 Aug - American Legion Legacy Run. The fourth annual American Legion Legacy Run motorcycle tour roars out of Indianapolis on Aug. 18-23, looping through at least seven states and ending in Louisville, Ky., site of the Legion’s 91st National Convention. Hundreds of riders are expected to gather to raise money for academic scholarships for the children of servicemembers killed on active duty since the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001. For the first time, the Legacy Run will head east, moving from Indiana into Ohio, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, and into Kentucky, arriving Aug. 21 in Louisville (final route planning is now under way). After completing the 1,000-mile circuit, the Legacy riders will join other riders assembling in Louisville to lead the 91st Annual National Convention Parade on Sunday, Aug. 23. 19 Sep - Dice Ride sponsored by Junction City ALR 240. Stage at Eagles at 0630, KSU at 0700. Registration at 1000, first bike out at 1100 hrs. Grand Prize will be a 2009 Sportster 883 from City Cycle Sales of Junction City. A portion of the proceeds will go to the American Legion Legacy Scholarship Fund.

Honor Flights:
The Honor Flights program sends WWII and terminally ill veterans to Washington DC to see the WWII, Korean War, and Vietnam War memorials as well as the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. This trip is free of charge to the veteran. If you know of a WWII veteran that has not gone on an Honor Flight, please have them fill out an application below and send it to Central Prairie Honor Flights at 1817 16th St, Great Bend KS 67530, or email it to Dan.Curtis@ks.usda.gov. We also need Guardians to accompany and assist the veterans on the flights. Honor Flight would not be successful without the generous support of our guardians. Guardians play a significant role on every trip, ensuring that every veteran has a safe and memorable experience. Duties include, but are not limited to, physically assisting the veterans at the airport, during the flight and at the memorials. Usually there is a guardian for every 2-3 veterans. A guardian can be a son, daughter, grandchild or other able-bodied adult.
